ANTIPHONY: a creative workshop

  • a workshop for artists, writers, musicians, and thinkers to find inspiration through another’s perspective.

Antiphonies are traditionally a call and response type of singing, usually performed in hymns or work songs. The conversation of inspiration that occurs between artist, artwork, and viewer, is like a song of call and response. When an artist puts their work out into the world, it not only is a vehicle of expression, but an opportunity for someone else to become inspired, and ultimately create from.

Before hosting Antiphony, I led monthly conversation salons with the intention of bringing groups of people together to generate creative inspiration.

Antiphony is rooted in process rather than product; it’s a non-hierarchichal, community oriented, approach to creating.

  • everyone attendee brings something they’ve created— finished or not—to serve as a prompt for another attendee to create from in the duration of the workshop.

medium does not matter, perfection does not matter; the purpose is to tap into the pure feeling of inspiration and run with it in the moment, while also building connections with fellow artists.

  • the third Thursday of every month at Flower Cat in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
